Her Lone Wolf Book #2 (X-ops series) Paige Tyler

Be prepared for a lot of action, tension and romance with this read. I loved her first book to this series and this one did not disappoint.

Danica Beckett, Special Agent with the FBI once was a Field Agent with DCO, but when she was being blackmailed to leave DCO and break it off with the love of her life, she had no choice in the matter. She did it for him, for his life and it broke her to pieces. She knew she had to be brutal otherwise he would see right through her.

Clayne Buchanan was recruited into the DCO after being arrested for murdering 3 men. What you didn’t learn until later is why he killed them. Clayne honestly in my opinion was really not a bad guy, he just had a volatile temper, but when partnered up with Danica they seemed to work. She calmed him, he trusted her, enough to tear down those gates. Their chemistry was spot on and when they finally give in oh did it work.

So after two years apart both with totally shattered hearts they were thrown together on a case and you can only imagine the animosity. Clayne did not need the woman who he loved and would give everything to back in his life after she dealt that devastating blow to his heart and soul. The emotions ran high and the feelings where even higher but neither could go with their baser instincts. They were both on a case trying to track down a shifter serial killer. But one important thing they couldn’t let their counter parts know what they were dealing with and it was only Clayne that could take him down. When Danica’s partner Tony’s wife was abducted by this sicko the stress level in this read goes up 10 notches. I was holding my breath the entire time and didn’t even realize it.

There were two points of major action in this read, the serial killer and the ever on going quest to find two doctors trying to create hybrid shifters using Lil’s DNA. This is what I can assume the pretense of the series is with some delish side action.

Paige blindsided me twice in this read and man was I floored. I still don’t want to believe their boss John is truly, knowingly involved with the hybrids. I hope I’ve piqued your interest to pick this read up and go on the emotional rollercoaster I was on. If you haven’t had the opportunity to read her first book of the X-ops series “Her Perfect Mate” do it now before reading this one. You will not be disappointed trust me. I’m so looking forward to her novella “Her Secret Agent” scheduled to release December 2, 2014 and the her next novel “Her Wild Hero” Book #3 to release next may. Only problem is I don’t want to wait that long.

4.5 Stars! This is the second book in Paige Tyler's X-Ops series. I loved the first book and this one was just as good. This book centers around Danica, a special agent with the FBI who used to work for the DCO. She was forced (blackmailed) to leave the DCO and break up with her partner, who she was romantically involved with. If she didn't comply then Clayne, her shifter partner would be sent to prison for the rest of his life. Clayne was Danica's partner who is a shifter that was recruited into the DCO after murdering 3 men. (We aren't told why he murdered those men until later in the story). Both Danica and Clayne are heartbroken but only Danica knows the real reason they broke up.
Fast forward 2 years and Clayne has is being sent to work with the FBI on a serial killer case. When he gets there he finds out the serial killer is a shifter and the one of the FBI agents is Danica.

This book is filled with action, romance and suspense. Danica and Clayne had a great chemistry and worked really well together. Clayne was a shifter with anger management issues but Danica was able to reel him in and they made great partners. It was nice that even though Clayne has some serious issues with Danica and he was really hurt he wasn't so abhorent to her that he said/did things that were even close to unforgivable

The plot was interesting and watching them work together to solve the case and not let anyone else know what Clayne was capable of was entertaining. Paige did a great job of having them work as a team dispite their issues and grow back together. Danica trusted Clayne and was quick to support and defend him. The book had some very suspenseful moments and a nice twist at the end.

Interspersed with in this book, was a continuing plot line from the first book, trying to find the scientests/doctors who were trying to create hybrid shifter's using DNA from another DCO team member. This storyline also had a major twist that will continue to play out during the next books. The other side characters were also entertaining and I look forward to their books.

You could read this as a stand alone but would get a lot more enjoyment if you read the first book and the first book is also excellent so I recommend reading it then this one. This is fast becoming one of my must read series.
I love how the paranormal aspect of this series just seamlessly blends into what could easily be just a straight romantic suspense. Yes half the characters are shifters and there are evil doctors trying to make hybrids but they way both worlds are blended together works perfectly.

Clayne Buchanan was a big grouch in the first book and not very likable. In this book we find out why. Between something he did in his past that the evil Dick has been holding over his head and losing both his partner and lover 2 years ago when she walked away from him and the DCO, his already rough demeanor got rougher. He is not exactly thrilled when he is sent to California to help track down a serial killer who so happens to be a hybrid and finds out one of the lead FBI agents on the case is none other than his ex-partner/lover.

Danica never wanted to walk away from Clayne two years ago but she had no choice. Now being so close to him again she realizes that her feelings haven’t changed but she puts those feelings aside for the case so they can stop the killer.

I thought Clayne and Danica had great chemistry from the start – even before they started their affair up again the way they knew each other as partners was still just as strong as it was in the past and they work great as a team in catching the killer.

The ongoing story arc was still going strong. Landon and Ivy are still trying to find the doctors/scientist who are out there creating hybrids from Ivy’s DNA. There is a bit a surprise/revelation on this at the end of the book that as a reader just has you wanting to get the next book to see what’s going to happen next.
