This was a fun, travelogue kind of thriller. It reminds me of some of my favorites writers in the genre, like James Rollins, Russel Blake, and Clive Cussler. Simone Cassidy is a great lead. She has a dynamic personality and brings the other half of the fun to a story that has an engaging plot. I love the way Mullaney blends folklore and myth with real-world locations (South East Asia, Mexico), lending the story an extra layer of authenticity. Highly recommended to fans of globe-trotting, adventure thrillers.

The Serpent Fang The Treasure Huntress Book 1 edition by Ryan Mullaney Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

A great story, told well. I love a unassuming hero. I'm went straight into the second book of the series!
I could not put the book down. I’m looking forward to reading more. I like that the main character, Simone, is a humble person. She is willing to grow and learn more about her past.
This was quite the adventure story... much in the ilk of an Indiana Jones adventure. In this case the hero is an every day woman with "skills"... a woman who's past is shrouded in mystery. It is this past which drives her in ways she does not fully understand and places her in situations which tests her beliefs.... But this story was a fast paced, page turner... a fun read. Highly recommend!
It will be difficult during the first few chapters to not mentally view Mullaney's newest heroine as anyone except Lara Croft. However, through each new character moment and physical description, it will be difficult at the end to not see anyone except SImone Cassidy. Mullaney himself in his notes says that he grew up playing Tomb Raider and watching Indiana Jones, so it makes sense that similar storytelling beats occasionally come up, but the overall story is compelling enough that it is not an issue. This is (so far) Ryan Mullaney's best, and I look forward to reading the next adventure.
After reading the author's explanation of too much violence in these type of stories, I could see what he was trying to do. That being said, someone who had been in wild places all over the world would hardly have come through without being exposed to violence against them more than once, particularly a woman alone. Maybe in future books he deals with this in a more realistic fashion.
Like the characters and storyline. I will definitely read Book 2. My only issue is one I have with many authors... That is, the author creates a strong lead female character then has her blunder, make stupid errors that really do not otherwise fit. You simply don't see this in lead male characters. Very frustrating
Really enjoyed his fast-paced, high octane female take on the archeology adventure. Reminded me of Tomb Raider but more grounded. Book introduces a dynamic, capable, strong heroine who isn't a superhero. If you enjoy David Leadbeater or James Rollins, check it out. Looking forward to the sequel.
