I purchased this Kindle Single early this year but decided to put off reading until Yule season approached. The wait was worth it! Friar Tucker and the Christmas Devil is a fun and engaging story which is an outtake of the author's Forrest Lord series which I also whole heartily recommend. This is the type of story whose reading demands a crackling fire and a glass of ale as you travel through time into a different world. I finished the story with a tear in my eye and a smile on my face. Friar Tucker and the Christmas Devil is the perfect antidote to the frayed nerves sometimes resulting from modern day celebrations and gets to the point of what the season is truly about. This story will be on my annual reading list for the foreseeable future. Highly recommended!Tags : Friar Tuck and the Christmas Devil (Kindle Single) - Kindle edition by Steven A. McKay, Phil Rose. Friar Tuck and the Christmas Devil Single edition by Steven A McKay Phil Rose Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Excellent quick read, I'll read all of McKay's works
A wonderful holiday adventure with Friar Tuck. A little mystery, some wassail and meat pies. Sit down by the fire with this and add to your own holiday enjoyment! A fun side adventure from the Forest Lord series of books about Robin Hood. Check them all out, great medieval adventure.
What a fun story ( with a touch of darkness ) this was.
Good job Mr McKay, wished it was 900 or so pages longer.
Well worth the money and would recommend to any Robin Hood or mystery fans out there.
This was a lot of fun, i was able to read about one of my favorite characters from the merry band of outlaws celebrate Christmas. If you're someone who enjoys Christmas or Christmas themes but are tired of the same xmas stories every year then look no further, this one has action all over, mystery, and a positive message at the end.
A marvelous tale that focuses on one of the overlooked characters of the Robin Hood tales. Friar Tuck has had to retreat from his local haunts and finds a mystery in a small forested village before Christmas.
The tale keeps a brisk pace and the Friar an able detective in the style of another personal favorite; Cadfael of Shropshire.
My one criticism would be that there's only one tale - I would like to read another and another!
This is the first fiction by Steven McKay that I have read. I enjoy Medieval novels (especially Cadfael) and desired a Christmas read. I was well rewarded. McKay has the gift--which is unfortunately lacking in some other authors of this genre--of creating likable characters who are also credibly 14th century in their behavior and psychology. There is some mystery, then a bit of real nail-biting suspense, then a satisfying Christmas season ending. I now plan to read more of McKay's Robin Hood novels in the future.
An enjoyable enough light adventure pitting Friar Tuck against devils, the hardships of winter, and the superstitions and anger of his fellow man.
Definately a neat and tidy christmas spirit ending, however unlikely it might seem given the circumstances. But if you don't mind suspending your disbelief and consider it a little bit more fairy-tale than historical fiction, you may well enjoy it.
I still like the authors development and handling of Tuck, so its nice to get more of him even if it isnt an ideal setting for me otherwise.
