Very well written story that has lots of action. It should hold your attention while you wait for a bunch of really bad guys to get what they deserve. Be warned, however, the brutality is extreme and much of it involves children.Tags : Amazon.com: Choice of Weapon (Garrett & Petrus Action Packed Thrillers) (9781490507651): C Marten-Zerf: Books,C Marten-Zerf,Choice of Weapon (Garrett & Petrus Action Packed Thrillers),CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform,1490507655,FICTION Thrillers General,Fiction,Fiction - Espionage Thriller,MysterySuspense,Thriller suspense,Thrillers - General,Fiction Action & Adventure
Choice of Weapon Garrett Petrus Action Packed Thrillers C MartenZerf Books Reviews
Those of us who have fought in wars, whether in some foreign land or on the streets of our home town, will recognize the 'Beast' that hides in Garrett and Petrus and even Mandoluto. Those who haven't, will still find the 'Beast' compelling. I recommend this first book in the series for all. However, if your sensibilities are easily offended, or if you have a squeamish stomach, read with caution - But Read It. There is no glory to be found in what some men are required to do so that others may live only a sense of accomplishment.
As a fiction novel I enjoyed this book a lot. The author did an excellent job developing the main characters to allow the series to continue. The story itself was fast paced and the reader didn't receive a whole of side story to detract from the plot. The main character is pretty awesome although the author did give him some super human characteristics such a being able to receive multiple gun shot wounds to include broken rib and still continue the fight. Adrenaline only does so much for you and your body, but again, its a fiction novel. The author did his research for Zulus and that particular country which helped sell the story better. As an introduction to the series, this book developed the back story for Garrett which is very important for the reader to connect to him. Worth the time to read this one and I'm looking forward to reading book 2.
This book contains graphic, bloody violence. Garrett is working to save children from horrific violence. With his new friend Petrus, they set out to find out what is happening and to end an evil man. The characters are developed as the story unfolds. The transformation of men who have been mercenaries/warriors is fascinating. The compassion to save the children is real. Africa , including South Africa, has a history of horrible violence- think apartheid. It is sometimes difficult to think about horrors that have gone on there. This story pulls in some true and some fiction events and sent me to search the internet. It is a gripping story that includes a massive battle and evidence of the magnificent Zulu warriors. Wow. Great work author. I have also purchased book two
Warning it has a lot of violence and terror in it. A horrific subject matter.
The only reason it did not get a solid 4 stars is that the editing is rather poor, really excessive errors that marred my reading and enjoyment of the book. You will find your brain and your eyes going 'huh?' all too frequently and having to re-read and re-read. Shame.
Kept me interested. Page turner. Enough action to keep it going. No sex. Some gory descriptions. Occasional swearing but within context. It was a little unbelievable sometimes, but if you let yourself believe the impossible, you can go along with some of the action scenes. I found the writing to be good for this genre of book. The story flowed, the characters were adequately developed. If you are looking for an action story with a strong hero character than Choice of Weapon may be what you are looking for. Two guys fighting 20 and winning is unrealistic, but the author kind of made it semi-believable. I read at night in bed before going to sleep. If a book is halfway good, I look forward to going to bed. With this book, I looked forward to going to bed and picking up where I left off. If you are looking for a literary masterpiece, this is not it. But for a good read in this genre, give Choice of Weapon a shot.
I gave it 2 Stars for the idea and the good editing, but I was disappointed in the story. I'd hoped for realistic characters and believable action but the good guys were heroic, ruggedly-handsome, "manly" men . . . manly men who anyone could see were also inherently dangerous, while the bad guys were huge and evil with huge guns that only manly bad-guys would be able to handle, and they were also cold-bloodedly brutal and dangerous and preyed on innocent children. The main female lead was a nun who wore drab clothing in an "unsuccessful attempt to de-feminize her body," but "the fullness of her breasts and hips made mockery of her attempts." There were also some bible verses thrown in to justify what the goods guys were doing.
Yes, it's another tale of manly men and voluptuous women. I dislike giving bad reviews and realize I'm being kind of snarky but from the average rating people may think this is much better than it is. If you like straight action stories with larger than life heroes and little realism you may like this one, but if you want a good story with realistic characters you may want to skip this one. As for me, I do not recommend.
This is a hyper violent tale of a mercenary taking on an evil South African gangster's army that works despite some clunky plotting and less than perfect editing (mainly typos). The South African locale is colorfully described, but there's also a level of brutality and violence that may be off-putting for some. A mysterious stranger with special forces skills responds to a lost love's request for help with a situation involving children disappearing from an impoverished orphanage. The soldier returns to his homeland and immediately proceeds with bringing about justice at any cost and in the most direct ways possible. Not the best or the worst of this kind of thing I've read, but other than the unique location, not especially memorable either.
Very well written story that has lots of action. It should hold your attention while you wait for a bunch of really bad guys to get what they deserve. Be warned, however, the brutality is extreme and much of it involves children.
